Almost everyone goes through style phases in their lives. If they didn’t, I don’t think I would trust them, at least not on some things. While sometimes cringe-worthy, these phases are integral to finding out who we are and what we like. What happens when you’re stuck going from phase to phase without landing on something though? This is the issue I have.
While I have been freed from the vicious cycle of microtrends and TikTok fads, it’s hard to say what my personal style is when I like so many aesthetics. This is a bit of a double-edged sword in my opinion. I am able to switch things up as desired, but most times having so many options just leads to frustrating mornings and decision paralysis that leads to dissatisfaction.
So how do I fix this problem? Well, I’m going to do what I do best and make a plan. This plan will consist of three parts:
First, make a list of my top 3-5 favorite aesthetics/styles.
My favorite aesthetics are:
Quiet Luxury
Academia
Minimalist
“model off duty”
Second, take note of all the ways these sections overlap.
Neutral colors
High quality basics
Minimal, yet quality jewelry
Timeless silhouettes
Versatile styles
Then, make a style and shopping list of the garments I might need. Basics and staples the rest right at the intersections of each style.
Black, navy, and brown trousers
Structured shirts (black, white, blue)
Loafers
Blazers
Denim
The aesthetics I listed aren’t all the ones I like but some of the ones I think I look best in. It’s best to narrow down to the ones you feel the most comfortable in as well as the ones that are easiest to make outfits with!
This was a quick post but I just wanted to get something out since it's been a while, let me know your thoughts. XOXO~
