Key fashion business players have invested in The Row, what now?
From a non-business fashion fan
As of September 13th, 2024, The Wertheimer family— the same family that owns Chanel — as well as Françoise Bettencourt Meyers (the granddaughter of the founder of L’Oreal, Euguene Schueller) gave The Row a financial investment of around one billion dollars. So, what does this mean?
For some context, The Row is a fashion brand made by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in 2006. Some notable traits of the brand are the price point of course as a luxury brand but also their no logo aesthetic & high-quality fabrication reminiscent of Philo-Era Celine (2008-2017) and Martin Margiela at Hermes (1997-2003). The brand has an air of mystique and restraint with its identity and branding. The brand has been gaining popularity over the years for its minimalist, “Quiet Luxury” aesthetic.
Now that some background has been established, what does this investment mean for the brand?
Overall, this investment is great news. Investments in a brand can aid in attracting customers & boost company value amongst other things. So not only does this investment by key players in the fashion industry add to the buzz around the brand, but it also solidifies the brands status as a serious luxury brand. As stated by Robert Burke, a New York luxury consultant, this is a serious “vote of confidence”.
